My Inner Child

Well, I haven't had my camera for a couple of days - so I can't update with squares and scarves but I've missed blogging. SO, I decided to go out and find something to add to my blog.

I took a little "inner child" quiz to see how I was doing. Here's what it says:

Your Inner Child Is Happy

You see life as simple,
and simple is a very good thing.
You're cheerful and upbeat,
taking everything as it comes.
And you decide not to worry,
even when things look bad.
You figure there's just so many great things
to look forward to.

I think that is true. I am a pretty happy person.

How Is Your Inner Child?

I finally caught up on Lost - WHEW! I love that show. I've been knitting a scarf for S for his birthday and will be starting Ts hat. I hope to have both finished by the first part of next week. I drew in the face on Tammy's painted lady. I will probably paint her and get her off soon.

I am in charge of training the church leaders over the children in the area where I live. I really really love it. We have a leadership training in just over two weeks so I'm frantically trying to get everything ready. It should be fun. I'm planning all sorts of fun activities and "prizes" and stuff.

Meanwhile, my bulk cooking is sadly lacking. Doing WW has changed the way we're eating quite a bit and I have to adjust recipes accordingly. Just haven't gotten there yet. Hopefully I can get a batch done this weekend. I miss having a freezer full! I did bake bread this week - I don't think I'll miss a week of THAT again any time soon. Delicious - and only 1 pt a slice!

I'd better go clean - boy does my house need it (that's what happens when you watch a season and a half of television in a week)......

Birthday Scarf

Well, it seems O likes his scarf. Isn't he a cutie?!

I've been very busy - K had a mystery party and it was super fun. Don't have any pics to post - I'll have to get some. She and her friends all dressed up for their parts in the mystery and had a great time!

Family came up for the party and stayed and visited and played "Five Crowns" - good times were had by all!! Especially me!!

Yesterday I cleaned my garage - boy did it need it. And also I crocheted my square for October which I will post a pic of later (or maybe tomorrow)... I have a hat and another scarf to get cruising on!!

Powerball

Well, the AP just announced that a ticket was sold in Oregon matching all six numbers. Somebody is going to be very lucky indeedy... UNLESS they did what I heard about yesterday (and admit I thought it was a fab idea) -- you buy the lotto ticket and then you EAT IT. That way when your number doesn't win, you're happy and relieved! Hope whoever won didn't do that. $340 million is a lot of money.

What would you do? This is not for real so don't talk about donating it blah blah blah. And also - no saying, "I don't gamble" and so forth. PRETEND people - that's as close as you're going to get to the money anyhow.

Oh, side note - "hundreds of ticket buyers had played a set of numbers from the ABC drama "Lost," which featured a character who won $156 million by playing a string of digits obtained from a patient in a mental institution: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42."

Gotta love it!!

Snake Eyes

Well, J1 is modeling the Snake Scarf. This is a b-day gift for O-Nephew. I hope he likes it!

PATTERN: The Slithering Scarf by Sarah Bradberry
YARN: Red Heart Orange & Green
NEEDLES: #8 dpn's
START: 10-10-05
COMPLETE: 10-18-05

LOVED: Enjoyed the pattern. It was easy to follow and fun to do. J1 really wanted to keep it. I guess that's one more for Christmas! I also enjoyed coming up with something a little different for the eyes. They are done double crochet around a button ring. I think it gives it that "trussssst in me" look.

HATED: I got a little yarn sick with the orange and green.

I put a little pill bottle in the bottom of the tail with some rice in it - so it rattles. Now I just need to make a red and black one!

Is Google psychic?

Okay, very strange things are happening in Google land...

Saturday I bought a sweater shaver and when I got home I found out that - I NEEDED BATTERIES! Coincidence? I think not. Doesn't it give you chills just thinking about it?

So, instead of the TV guide horoscope - which has long been my source for psychic inspiration, I am now turning to Google to see what I truly need. If only I had listened and purchased the batteries... true, it would have been nice if it had specified what size ----

Now I have to get back to Season 1 of LOST. I'm simply, well -- lost in it.

The Mia Bag Unveiled

Drum roll and tada!

Here is the Mia bag...

I didn't like the ribbon in the tubing so I did an i-cord instead. I will post the pattern when I have time to mess with it.

Whit Needs

Okay, this is funny. I've been seeing it all over in blogland, so I thought I'd do one too. To get your list go to google and type "whit needs" - except use your name instead of mine.

  1. WHIT NEEDS to give me back my hat. (Who? What hat? Where?)
  2. WHIT NEEDS time to think it over. (I never think anything over - but I probably should)
  3. WHIT NEEDS deleting. (this one just disturbed me)
  4. WHIT NEEDS to act more like an adult. (Well that one's true)
  5. WHIT NEEDS batteries. (lol)
  6. WHIT NEEDS anger management.

Those are just funny. I would make sure to go into "preferences" and set the SafeSearch filtering to strict if you want to keep them family friendly. :O)

In the doghouse

Well, I realize that I am in the doghouse for not finishing the Mia Bag. Really truly and honestly it is my goal to have it for you tonight. I just haven't had the time to get to the store and get a sweater shaver or the stuff for handles.

The snake scarf is also almost finished - and Cori's bag is just waiting for a closure and to be sent.

If you want to see one project I've actually been working on, check this site. Sister Two did the graphic design and I did the site. The photographer is a neighbor of hers. S2 is a professional scrapbooker (Simple Scrapbooks) and has a great eye, don't you think?

AMAZING Race

My family is really into the reality TV show - The Amazing Race. We have hope that the "rugrats" (aka Gaghan family) will win. They probably won't - but we'll keep cheering for them until they're off.

The only other show we are really into is Extreme Makeover - HOME Edition. I think my daughter may have a crush on Ty. So, both television shows we watch are reality tv. Weird.

What reality shows have sucked you in?

A Tale of Two Scarves

Okay, first I will apologize for not posting pics of the felted Mia Bag yet - I promise I will get it shaved and posted by tomorrow (maybe even this afternoon if I get motivated). I really do love it - I just keep forgetting to buy a sweater shaver or disposable razors and don't want to use my Venus (love that razor!)...

So, I had this yarn left over from a felting experiment gone bad and I am not one to just let a skein of yarn sit around (I don't have much of a stash - GASP). I tend to buy yarn specifically for a project and not just because I like it. This is because I always have a fear that I will buy it, find the perfect project for it and need one more skein/hank whatever and be unable to find the same dye lot.

Okay - SO, I decided to make an elongated stitch scarf - it's just trading off between garter rows and elongated stitch. I actually really like it. It's not something I would normally choose - but I think it's really pretty. And, oddly, it is doing a self striping thing - I just happened to choose the right amount of stitches for that to happen. Freaky. But now I have to buy another skein because I don't have enough to finish the scarf! Argh. I'm pretty sure I can match it because I bought it recently, but see how this just proves my point?!

Because I ran out of yarn on that scarf, I decided to start on a birthday gift. It is a snake scarf and is in green and orange. I think the child I'm making it for will love it!!!

The weekend was paintball for the "boys" and visiting for Mom & I. It's nice to have a Mom who is also a friend! PB was promoted. He is now in charge of dropping a demon down from the trees. His boss complimented him when he was able to knock three teen girls down at once from the fright of a dropping demon. The children had no school yesterday. Not really in honor of Columbus Day - but we'll take it!

OH, and I'm down THREE pounds so far. :O)

The Mia Bag

Well, I finished assembling the bag. I will try to put post-felting pictures on today - I should have time to felt it when I get home from the gym.

The bag measures 12.5" long and the diameter of the base is 6.5" ... I will measure after I felt and we'll see!

I had a lot of fun and learned a lot doing this pattern. I love the intarsia with all of the little hand-wound bobbins! I will fix up the pattern a bit and post it if anybody's interested. :O)

PBs First Job

Well, this is a picture taken last year of Punk Boy. He's got a great heart and an entertaining soul. One of his teachers said of him, "He marches to the beat of a different drummer... I just wish he wouldn't do it so loudly."

Last night he came home quite excited to have been hired for his first job. He is still a few months away from the big 16, but the local corn mazes are hiring 15-year-olds. So, he came in and told me this would be the coolest job ever. $20 in cash every night and the only question the owner of the "Haunted Forest" had asked him was, "Would you have a problem chasing people around with a chainsaw?" Well, NO.

Purse Progress

Well, I'm very excited because this is the first time I've really made up a pattern. I even made up the flower intarsia part. Pretty fun stuff I tell you. Here is a shot of what it's looking like right now. I bought the beautiful Mauch Chunky raspberry color (that I used for Mom's bag) and am doing the bulk of the bag with that. I am using leftovers from Katie's sweater and Cori's bag - all those little pieces that never get used - to do the flowers.

Can't wait to finish it!! Knowing me I'll be up at midnight tonight felting. Ugh - I hope not. lol

I'm halfway with the body of the purse. You can see the bottom of the purse in the pic - it's the circle. I will be making the handles with ribbon, rubber tubing, a hole punch and some cute buttons. :O)

October Goals

First, here is my amazingly wonderful new knitting purse. It is HUGE. Way bigger than I imagined. I can easily fit a project in progress and all of the full length needles I've ever purchased. Although - I don't use straight needles anymore. Sad (?) but true. Even if the pattern calls for back and forth knitting, I use my circs.

Okay, goal update:

SEPTEMBER-
  1. October projects for class - COMPLETE (pumpkins, hat & Bruno)
  2. Poncho for Ashlee - COMPLETE (no pic - but it was the same pattern as this)
  3. Hats for Jayden & Joshua - COMPLETE (this pic also shows Cori's prefelted bag)
  4. Bears for Samuel & Owen - COMPLETE (no pic - but this is the same pattern)
  5. Felted bag for Corina - NEAR COMPLETION (still need to add snap & mail)
  6. Poncho for Savannah - NOT EVEN STARTED
  7. Purse for Amelia - In progress (no pic yet - maybe later today)
  8. Start "We Wash You a Merry Christmas" cloths (WHAT?! Forgot all about these)

Things that weren't on the list that I did anyway:

  1. Celtic knot hat for baby brother's birthday
  2. Rose Square
  3. Puzzle Square (also shown is a quick black corkscrew scarf that I did that day)
  4. Finished Bug's sweater

OCTOBER- (in no particular order)

  1. November projects for class
  2. Secret project
  3. Finish Purse for Amelia
  4. Start We Wash You a Merry Christmas cloths
  5. Do squares for October & November
  6. Poncho for Savannah

Bruno - Nouveau Chapeau

Well, here is the completed hat. Also.... (drum roll) I GOT MY VINTAGE KNITTING BAG that I ordered from Ebay. I haven't opened it yet. I will take pics when I do. I can't wait to see it, but I'm too tired to even open the box right now.

PATTERN: Celtic Cap by Girl from Auntie
YARN: Piece Fleece from lys
NEEDLES: #8 dpn's
START: 9-28-05
COMPLETE: 9-30-05
LOVED: This worked up so nice. Perfect choice of yarn. I love doing cables!
HATED: Hmmm... I wish I'd had a 16" set of #8 circs and it would have been much faster. Also, I hated the directions "knit into the front and back st, pick up the vertical strand..." If it read "knit into the back and front st, pick up the vertical strand..." it would make infinitely more sense and have saved me an hour or so of looking up instructions online to figure out why there was no vertical strand!!!

Why am I so tired, somebody asked? Well, I just got back from the Walmart - doing the shopping on a SATURDAY?! What was I thinking?! Well, I really wasn't thinking. I just started a new diet and I had to go buy healthy food. Hoorah. I think I will count some exercise points for Walmart. What do you think? One hour of light exercise? Definitely.
